Nostalgia & History > DRGW 1512 & 3501 party photos found in Grandpa Joe's basementDate: 03/31/16 20:16 DRGW 1512 & 3501 party photos found in Grandpa Joe's basement Author: SPMW5771 Grandpa Joe was an SP switchman at Ogden, Utah for 45 years retiring in 1963. Prior to that he worked for the Oregon Short Line Commissary in Ogden for 7 years. He had an interesting career including retiring in front of Pacific Electric 1652, a GE 44 tonner that switched the Ogden shops.
These DRGW engine photos I believe found in his basement belonged to an Uncle I never had the privilege to meet as Grandpa Joe never worked for DRGW. The photos show the engines being showcased in some sort of community event including ladders attached to the cabs for public inspection. The event very likely occurred in Ogden. The tenders were stenciled with the full railroad name before speed lettering. Pictures were probably taken the mid-twenties or early thirties. Information on the locomotives was found on the Rio Grande Modeling & Historical Society Website. IIRC the brick head building was still standing in July, 2014, when the UP History group met in Ogden. Sorry, no photos that I can find. |
