It’s been a dark day for Rock Island fans & former employees. A bad anniversary. The ROCK died 36 years ago. And the vultures pounced…

1. Looking east from the KS hwy 18 crossing east of Zeandale, KS. There have been NO 5-chime horns heard here for 36 years. The girder bridge over Deep Creek is all that remains…

2. Turn 180 degrees and look west at the same crossing and pick up 2 ghostly rail-trails…

3. Go back 3 years before the bitter end at the same crossing and watch CRI&P 317 ambling east with an unknown manifest on August 14, 1977. (Image previously posted)

There's a somber feeling to all three of these images.  Makes you wonder what would the Rock look today if it had been allowed to survive....
