Tuesday Two - Akron and Barberton Beltline
Author: refarkas

In early diesel days the Akron and Barberton Beltline was best known for its yellow and black Baldwin switchers, but by the early 1970's these were gone. Leased power in the form of mainly Precision National Geeps took over with other locomotives also being leased. By 1983 the Beltline had two EMD switchers which are still used by the A&BB successor the Akron Barberton Cluster.
Image one: Leased Morrison Knudsen 4302 sits in the afternoon sun in Barberton, Ohio on 08/11/1981. Behind it is the A&BB caboose still in its red sides with yellow lettering paint scheme. The lower water tower is from the A&BB days of steam, and the higher water tower belongs to Babcock and Wilcox.
Image two: I rarely took night photos, but on 05/20/1983 A&BB 1502 and the A&BB caboose were both wearing the new Beltline paint scheme. Here they are at the A&BB engine facility in Barberton, Ohio.
