Nostalgia & History > Thursday Thankful - The EL YardDate: 05/04/16 23:14 Thursday Thankful - The EL Yard Author: refarkas Sometimes a photo captures a "Can't Be Repeated Scene". The tracks the PRR gondola is on are now CSX, and perhaps Sperry 125 might be still around, but virtually everything else is gone. This is looking west towards the EL yard in Akron, Ohio in May 1974. What is missing now? Here they are from closest to farthest:
1.)The PC track in the lower left corner which is just barely visible. 2.) The PRR gondola and the PRR itself. 3.) The EL yard. 4.) The EL yard office at the left. 5.) EL T-20 transfer caboose with the B&O boxcar. 6.) ERIE 520 with the EL boxcar. She was the last unrepainted ERIE locomotive in service. Rumor had it that she was always hidden in the enginehouse when EL officials were on the property. 7.) Sperry Rail Service 125. 8.) The ERIE boxcar on the farthest visible yard track. 9.) The track on the hill serving the bakery. 10.) The bakery. This area is now part of a bus rider transfer facility. Thanks for posting this.

The 520 was in the dead line at Marion OH when Conrail took over, it was still painted Erie. Brian Date: 05/05/16 16:40 Re: Thursday Thankful - The EL Yard Author: refarkas Thanks for the good news that Sperry Rail Services 125 is still around. She was a beauty back then, and I hope she looks as good now.
