ICE Display Train 1993
Author: RFandPFan

Here is a video of the ICE (Inter-City Express) train on display at Fredericksburg, VA. This was part of the Amtrak demonstration tour of this train.  Two F69PH-AC's were specially painted for the train to haul it around non-electrified areas.  For those that weren't around at the time, the ICE and X-2000 were both trains that Amtrak was testing for the eventual development of the Acela trains.  There is also some footage of the train returning to Washington, DC on the RF&P Sub.

Thanks for sharing.  About a month after your video, I rode this train from Washington to New York, first class.  Nice train, wish I had had the opportunity to ride the X-2000.

Actually they were F69PHAC's. They had AC traction motors.

I was lucky enough to ride it the ICE from PHL-WAS when it operated on the NEC.  I tried the full service diner for dinner; as I recall it was very nice but priced at about $15-18....high for that time.
I recall thinking that it was a one-time happening for me; since my employer wasn't paying for meals I was happy to have sampled the offerings but decided they were too rich for my pocketbook.

I think the interior is really nice.Too nice to run on the NEC.
It would be in pieces in a few weeks.
