D&RGW steam at Helper
Author: donstrack

Here are some recent scans from Dave England's collection. They are from 8x10 prints, that were very badly curled, and without any data as to photographer, date or location. Dave says they are not his photos, nor does he recall where they came from. All appear to be taken at Helper, Utah. About possible dates, one indicator would be that the last D&RGW steam locomotives left Utah in 1954.

Daddy, why did the choo-choo need overfire jets? Great shots, nice to see the grunt stuff, any
F-81 shots in that group?

Those old Rio Grande malleys were wonderful in their ungainliness. That's the first photo that I have seen of a 2-6-6-2 with a striped sandbox.

Ditto on the striped sand box.  I was wondering if this was a former
