SP 150, the Business Car "Sunset"
Author: MartyBernard

I just scanned these two slides of Roger Puta's.  SP 150 Sunset at Oakland's 16th Street Station in July 1980.  At the time the car was SP Chairman Benjamin Biagini's.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Car set on the Private Car spur next to 16th St Twr. Guess BFB has done some entertaining and now the coach yard engine ( not Huff and Puff) will take the car back to the coach yard

Even the coupler is spray painted silver!  Look at the trucks with the extra shocks!  I bet that car rode well!

It's their toy now so they get to decide how it looks.

That's how the Sunset should look! Not painted in diarrhea yellow.

Definitely not an SD-9 in the distance.

SD-9s weren't used as switch engines in Oakland; it's probably the 1198 (or something like that).

It was (is) a beautiful car- until you took a peek inside.
I always referred to it as "The City of Formica". Very 60's in there!

Remodeled in 1973 by United Airlines because BFB liked the 747 lounge

Anybody have any photos of the interior pre-73 remodel?  Or know of any on the web?

I think there are photos of it in the old Lucas Beebe CP-SP book.

There was a set of books that came out a number of years ago, vol 5 and 6 were SP Pullman built cars and factory shots of the Sunset were included

The loco is not an SP SW1500, because the headlight is in the center over the cab door.  It is also not one of the ten rebuilt SW900s (SP 1190-1199) for the same reason, all of them and the SW1500s had the five lights in a horizontal row.
Whats left?  One of the two or three SW800s that weren't rebuilt, and didn't have ash can Mars lights, SP 1120-1122?
