The EL is crossing the mainlines out of the Rock Island 's South Chicago yard. We had to walk up to the shack and ask the operator to line us across to leave the yard. From there we would head west to Gresham Junction and then south on the mainline to Blue Island and beyond. South Chicago yard took many deliveries off a few railroads. It was the originating yard for the auto parts train from deliveries off of the C&O/ N&W and others. It also was the center for the switch jobs on the south side/ Calumet area. One of the larger plants they switched was the Sherwin WIlliams plant.

Looks like clean loco day all the way around! I always liked the IC/ICG orange and white, but it never held up very well.
