A UP (MP) 'Where is it'?
Author: M-420

This one is from 1989: A pretty interesting UP consist (Note the GP40X) working it's way westbound.
But where?

I would say roughly the midwest somewhere.

Actually, looking at these, there is nothing to go on.
Apologies.

This was on the old T&P just a little west Of Abilene. TX.

No apologies needed. I am amazed at how some people here are able to figure out a place by some very small details. Part of the fun is guessing and then maybe narrowing it down by elimination.

Until the merger of SP with the UP system that  was a train to "no where".  SP had shut off interchange with the MP-UP in El Paso.  Basically traffic went almost no further than Odessa- Monahans, TX on that old T&P line.  A little did reach El Paso but not much.  The SP-UP merger changed that in a hurry.  Good to see the pink granite ballast which covered all the T&P right of way and came from a place called Crusher, Tx just past Van Horn.
