Nostalgia & History > Extra 2654 WestDate: 01/15/17 16:33 Extra 2654 West Author: WichitaJct Santa Fe extra 2654 west stopped just east of the Lawrence (Ks.) depot, February 1978. This was one of two daily Topeka turns that originated at Argentine. Can't remember why the 2650-2654 had torpedo type air reservoirs. Maybe it was because they originally had steam generators? But why then would the air reservoirs be on the roof?

No, the air tanks are up on top to make room for the largest fuel and water tanks possible. The steam generator was in the short hood.
