Interesting that WofA 502 is carrying what appear to be green flags for a following section.  Wonder what that was all about?

Since this is a very old phoo, my thought is the green flags are for a following section of the Crescent that was operated by the A&WP and WRofA between Atlanta and Montgomery.

In 1959 I suppose there could still have been enough passenger demand to require a second section occasionally. Or maybe there was an officer's train or some other special running as the second section. At that point the A&WP/WofA south of East Point, Ga. was TT+TO with ABS. No CTC until the L&N south of Montgomery. 

Note the rear end Southern passeger unit in the background.. freshly painted into tuxedo.
