The Chicago – St. Louis route is the current Illinois Somewhat Higher Speed Line.

Page 3 – Special Instruction 2: The Alton Jct. referred to was part of the Panhandle /
Brighton Park complex of crossings and wyes.  Not to be confused with the location of the
same name on the PRR which was the junction of the Alton and PRR at 21st St.

Page 4 – beginning with the third paragraph from the bottom in the left hand column:
Interesting operation for northward trains on the southward track.  It looks like they took the
number plate off the southward ABS signal at Sherman and wired it so that it went red when
Ridgely lined something north on the Southward Main.  Not “CTC” account not listed on page 6
as Traffic Control System.   Also interesting that the Ridgely yardmaster issued the detour order.
