1976 and the American Freedom Train
Author: bandob

Continuing my photo history in chronological order, the only time I saw the American Freedom Train was July 4, 1976, at the New Cumberland Army Depot near Harrisburg, PA. So many people and little photo opportunity.  These are the best I could do.

Considering the crowd, you did well.

Those are fine photos, and that's what the American Freedom Train was all about, to attract people to learn about our country's history.  Looks like AFT No. 1 contributed to that cause.  (Thanks, Ross).

I don't know if Harrisburg was on the original AFT itinerary, but it certainly wasn't scheduled for the coveted 4th of July spot. But in about Feb NYC threw a wrench into the AFT's calendar when they backed out of a 3wk display commitment
There was a frantic scramble to fill the hole, and as I understand it, someone in Harrisburg was paying attention and quickly grabbed the 4th.
