A MoPac crew swap...

Pictured is a crew change taking place on the Missouri Pacific Railroad at Osawatomie, Kan., in early December of 1966. The new crew would relay this eastbound train to Neff yard in Kansas City, Mo.

The building in the picture was a longtime yard office and on-duty and off-duty terminal point for the train crews. The building was abandoned just days after the photo. Trains crews then started changing a few blocks away at a division office building near the downtown.

The yard office was demolished by the MoPac in 1967, the same year the railroad also razed the town depot.

Good shot and great story, Larry. I was 15 back then, watching the Santa Fe from Edmond, Oklahoma before relocating to MoPac territory in Kansas in 1973.

Osawatomie to Neff yard--maybe 75 miles tops? That's a pretty short run.

That thing looks like a good old fashioned Kansas sleeping porch!

There is a Mile Post number of 334.0 in the Osawatomie switch yard. Anyone know what the north end Mile Post number is for the Coffeyville Sub. in Kansas City, Mo.? Historically, I think the KC-Osawatomie crew run was the shortest on the system. But I could be wrong.
