Nostalgia & History > CR's WJOI on the Raritan Valley LineDate: 03/13/18 12:10 CR's WJOI on the Raritan Valley Line Author: Pattenburg CR's WJOI trailing freight cars gives a good idea as to how many companies utilized railroad deliveries along what is now NJT's Raritan Valley Line. It is seen here passing through the Readington Road grade crossing in Branchburg (NJ), a location that once had two sidings going out to companies on each side of the tracks in this September 1, 1985 scene. Currently only one company continues the use of delivery by rail.

The General Services Agency was a major shipper on the Lehigh Line, too. I don't recall if they were still using much rail in 1985. Thanks for sharing! ~RGDave Date: 03/14/18 10:32 Re: CR's WJOI on the Raritan Valley Line Author: ctjacks Are you sure this isn't a photo of a through freight? CR did occasionally use the ex-CNJ line for through trains when the ex-LV line was down for maintenance. By 1985 the amount of freight service left on the ex-CNJ was small, as I recall from growing up in Westfield.

It definitely wasn't a through freight as this train had worked Fisher Scientific that same day. |
