What are the structures in Picture #1 - the remnants of a ventilation system?

Yes, they were ventilation fans

That second photo, the going-away with the two Alcos, is really special.

Shot 2. Could that be Middle Div. near Cove Pa perhaps? Sorta looks like it "could"be. Graet shots no matter. Ben

That would be a good guess. Has the look of that area.

The middle photo is mesmerizing! There is so much to see. Hell, you can even see the heat from the crankcase breather on the trailing unit!!! The sound must have been incredible.

Fantastic photo series! Thanks for posting them.

A combination of both. There are many things to like about Alco's. One of my favorites is the distinct "hot" smell of an idling unit from the crankcase breather.

The visible heat and force of the exhaust from the breather in the photo illustrates the combination, under load, in an astonishing way.

Yes the smell was very much a part of any Alco "encounter"!

Yes and the eternal sound of ringing alarm bells.
