Helper Run up Sand Patch Grade, Hyndman, 26 October 1991:

We first see CSX SD-60 #8700 sitting at the Hyndman tower at 1104 hours on 26 October 1991, getting ready to hook onto the rear of Train #137, which has 180 loads. The helper set is CSX 8700, 8704, and 8706. The helper set will push the train up and over the summit at Sand Patch. Enjoy the ride up the grade (in 3 sections)!

Just as we get to the Falls Cut tunnel running westbound, we meet an eastbound CSX exiting the tunnel (what timing!).

The helpers cut off just below the summit at Sand Patch, and Train #137 continues on its way unassisted. The helpers drift back down the grade down the hill to Hyndman.

Very nice videos. Nice to see videos of railroading when it was really railroading.
Retired in 2005 after 43 years as a conductor on the BNSF. Got in my truck and drove home and have never been back.

Fantastic videos. Sadly 8704 is no longer on the roster. Its at Larry's Truck and Electric with fire damage.
