Two SP switcher paint schemes out in Niles Canyon today
Author: sp5623

Our freshly painted SW900 1195 was brought out of the shop today by our NW2 1423.  Could these two paint schemes be brought together anywhere else?  I'm sorry for the somewhat washed out appearance of the second photo but the smokey air in the canyon wasn't very kind to my Mavic.  The first photo is by Gerry Feeney.  There is still a bit of paint work to do on the 1195 but it should soon be in service.

Was 1195 with Parr Terminal for a while?

Yes, after Levin metals bought it for scrap from the SP.

OERM, now SCRM, in Perris, CA, can bring the two schemes together as well, their ALCO S4 is in tiger stripes, and U25B is in bloody nose, and soon their SW1 will be in black and white SP.

Fillmore & Western can as well, S6 1059 in tiger stripes, and RS32 in bloody nose, but both have the F&W name on them, so not true SP i suppose. Any others out there?

That SW900 looks good!

Both locomotives are ex-Parr Terminal (now the Richmond Pacific Railroad).  Parr Terminal/Richmond Pacific has been very nice to the Pacific Locomotive Assn.

Here is another thread with some interesting info on the 1195.  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3078668
Note that Howard Wise, the man leading the restoration of the only remaining SP Krauss-Maffi, was also responsible in making the 1195 a valuable locomotive to the Parr Terminal which allowed it to survive to be donated to the PLA.

Here's a thread on when it was moved to the canyon:  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2678250,page=1

These "rattletraps" weren't much fun to work the work with, but I'm glad some have been preserved for posterity.

Thank you for the interesting 1195 history.  It sure looks a lot better in your photo when it was in the clean Richmond Pacific blue and white scheme than it did in the days prior to its new paint job.  Time and salt air take a toll.  Runs well, a good switch engine.  Maybe a few rattles, but not as bad as the NW2 1423.

You sure were a cute kid.
