Nostalgia & History > WAG running extra (#53): Dueling steam in TopekaDate: 08/17/18 11:38 WAG running extra (#53): Dueling steam in Topeka Author: santafe199 Even though this image was scanned from a B/W print, I really like the resulting texture. The raw feel of the photo leads the casual observer to imagine a sort of ‘showdown’ scene from the Old West. We have a pair of Union Pacific’s huge and apparently hungry 9000s looking at each other at the ‘feeding trough’, otherwise known as the coaling tower in Topeka Yard. What a RR world it was, 7 decades ago…
1. UP 4-12-2 #9036 in Topeka, KS in the 1940s (my estimation). Scanned from a B/W print. Original photo by William A. (Art) Gibson (WAG) Jr. Thanks for looking back! Pretty sure all the UP 9000 class locomotives had 6 wheel Commonwealth trucks. Date: 08/17/18 14:56 Re: WAG running extra (#53): Dueling steam in Topeka Author: Spoony81 tomstp Wrote:
