Resembles the old Ingersoll-Rand/General Electric/Alco box cab diesels that started early life on the CNJ, DL&W and other New York City carriers that had terminals in the Bronx etc to comply with no steam locomotive exhausts in the 1929 era.

I remember this one. Got a few shots of it myself before it disappeared. Only thing I did not enjoy about it tho, It was in one of the not so good neighborhoods in Hbg. Off of N 7th Street btwn MacClay and Division Street. Not one of my favorite places to go. Thanks for sharing..  Did ya ever get a shot of the "other gem" in HBG? Up north in the Lucknow Rail Facility was to be found what at the time was the only ERIE Built B Unit in existemnce, painted a light blue. Was part of a rail welding outfit. Saw it many time, never got a shot tho, and before ya knew, it was gone. Ben

Might be built on a steam locomotive tender frame, judging by the Commonwealth trucks. Interesting that it has an "F" like a locomotive and the "2" at the rear per NYC practice.

I thought it had a horn! Looks like a steam generator stack stivking up through the roof.

A NYC steam generator car similar to this maybe same was a Albany Union Station for building heat in the 1960-1968 period.
