On Approach
Author: overniteman

At the far outskirts of O'Hare airport, a Milwaukee Road freight rushes passed as a Continental Airlines (The proud bird with the golden tail) McDonnell Douglas DC-10 prepares to land.

Bensenville, Illinois.
August. 1978.

You hit the jackpot on that shot!  You don't often see a meet between an SD40 and DC10.  Thanks for sharing.

Yes, and three fallen flags in the shot as well. Great timing for you.

A little off topic, but during a major strike/work slowdown in the late 70s at
Continental, it became know as the Proud Bird With The Brass Ass!

Nice timing. The location is actually Bryn Mawr in Elk Grove Village and the locomotives are on the UP's Milwaukee Sub which the Milwaukee used up to Techny.

I grew up along a Milwaukee Road branch line in Minnesota and worked for Continental Airlines for 18 years.  My favorite railroad and favorite airline in one shot. Love it.
