How 'bout some New York Central
Author: NKP715

Our gang certainly watched a lot of New York Central action - - in
earlier days, it would help pass the time while waiting for the next
Berkshire on the adjacent NKP.  Here's a few shots from the pre
Penn Central '60's.

1.  In May of 1966, FA-2 1076 leads three FB's on what appears to be
an endless train of hoppers, at Moorheadville, PA.

2.  GP7 5909 working Harmon, NY with "T" Motor 255 in the background.
Slide taken in Nov of 1966

3.  Another look at the 255

4, 5.  Jumping cross country to Chicago, May of 1967.  E8 4067 and E7 4035
power the CENTURY as it begins the journey east from LaSalle Street.  Train
26 may be the headliner in these two shots, but the ROCK isn't gonna be outdone !

6.  In the mid 60's, transfer runs in the Cleveland area were mainly handled by the
EMD reengined CFA-20-4's. The 5006 is at Collinwood, Aug 8, 1965.

7.  The Central's CFA-16-4's retained their FM OP engines, and were in road
service.  This pan shot was taken Feb 4 of 1965 of the 6607 westbound thru Erie, PA

8, 9  While Pennsy sharks were the proverbial "dime-a-dozen" in my hometown of Erie,
we had to travel to Indianapolis or Cinncinnati to see them on the NYC.  In these Nov of
1966 scenes, a three unit set is serving as helpers, ahead of a trio of F's.  First shot
shows the units backing onto their train;  in the second, it's departing, as sister Baldwins
watch in the background.  The A units have received their 1200 series Penn Central numbers,
but none would survive into the merger.

Hope you enjoyed this look back - - like most fallen flags, hard to believe where the years
have gone.

Awwright, wize-guy!!! I KNOW what you're up to here! You're trying to convince me to start thinking I was born on the wrong side of the Mississippi. (You booger! :^)

Good grief, you keep posting shots that have so much neat "stuff" in them. Time period-landmark type stuff that gives a very tasty slice of American railroading, frozen forever at the very second you hit the shutter release. Instantly recognizable stuff that is guaranteed to grab the attention of anyone who has been even close to where you took the shot. Not to mention the pure history in the main subject trains and/or locomotives in your shots. This of course explains how & why I fell outta my chair the first time I laid eyes on the kick-ass Kansas "stuff" you posted when you were stationed at Ft Riley, just a dozen miles down the road from my Manhattan. (BTW: I still have a sore spot from where I hit the floor! Multiple times. Guess I shoulda been wearing a seat-belt ...;^)

Sure Jim, just keep on posting this really cool stuff knowing I can't ask my deceased parents how come I was born west of the Mississippi...

:^)
