How many painted this way on BN?
Author: ns2557

Down Pueblo Co way on the day after Christmas 1998 I shot this BN SD40-2, 8031. Just a standard SD40-2 of which BN had many of. But how many had the white stripe on the long hood and cab separating the green from the black? Looking back thru some of the reference material I have, found a few, also from the 8000 series, but nothing on how many. And at that which shop did the work or did EMD deliver them this way?  Thanks.   Ben

If Wikipedia is to be believed, BN introduced the "white face" scheme with the company emblem on the nose in 1989 and added the separation stripe in 1991.

The SD40-2 was out of production by then, and BN had bought its last new one in 1980 anyway, so all the "porches" were delivered in the older BN Cascade Green scheme, with diagonal white and green stripes on the nose and black and green on the front wall of the cab.

The only new locomotives delivered in white face were the SD60M's.  They were all on the property before the white stripe was adopted, so no new locomotives were delivered in white face with the white separation stripe.  An unofficial list of white faces is here, with askerisks to denote the ones with separation stripes:
