Another of Those One-of-a-Kind Memories -- Roger Patelski
Author: MartyBernard

During the last week of operation of Chicago-Grand Rapids one car C&O Pere Marquette in April 1971, Roger rode Chicago to Michigan City.  He says the engineer ran past the station and had to back up.  He returned on the South Shore. The slide mount says Michigan City.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Thanks for the photo Marty.  Roger did not know this at the time; however, the passenger car, C&O 1700, originally came from the Pere Marquette, was retired and sold to the Western Maryland Railway and ran as their 1700 for various special excursion trains, then this car went into the Maryland DOT commuter trains on the Chessie System (B&O) still painted in Western Maryland red white and black colors before the Chessie System painted it back into the C&O paint scheme, and today it is sitting in the B&O R.R. Museum in the front yard collecting rust, another sad example of a car with so much history not being preserved properly.  So that photo is a rare bird for sure.
