Here is a 15-page history of Union Pacific in Idaho, through 1981, completed by UP's Public Relations staff in Salt Lake City. If I understand the code at the end, it was done in October 1981.

The “b“ in the date code is my initial.  I wrote it I. My second year with UP in the Salt Lake office after leaving my newspaper job in Nampa, Idaho to go work for the railroad,

Thanks John. I thought it might be you.

Here is a brief 9-page history of the Oregon Short Line done in February 1977, with a 'w' code. I suspect this was John Weatherby's code from the Omaha office.
