Nostalgia & History > Mighty Fine Day on the Mighty Fine LineDate: 01/18/20 21:19 Mighty Fine Day on the Mighty Fine Line Author: Quakerengr August 1976 brings us to Bureau, IL on the Rock Island. Just a teen at the time, my mentors from the NWI Chapter of the NRHS, Rockford, IL., graciously allowed me to travel with them.
Image 1 has an eastward freight rolling towards Chicago from Silvis, IL with 230 leading. Image 2 has the Peoria Rocket with 650, stopped on the Peoria main, while the operator is about to hoop orders up to the rear end crew of a westward heading from Chicago to Silvis, IL. while the Quad Cities Rocket slow rolls into the station. Image 3 with the westward clear the Quad Cities pulls up to a stop. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 01/18/20 21:28 by Quakerengr. Date: 01/18/20 21:25 Re: Mighty Fine Day on the Mighty Fine Line Author: Quakerengr Image 4 Quad Cities Rocket has the Bicentennial motor 652 on the lead today. As I recall, when on time, the Quad Cities Rocket would depart first for Chicago then the Peoria Rocket departed 5 minutes later.
Image 5 As a 19 year old on my first visit to Bureau, was a fun and exciting day. Lotsa trains for the short time frame we were there.. My mentors from the NWI Chapter would explain later after seeing these slides how to "Better Compose" photos. In this case maybe step back a bit and do something different with the crossing lights. Stay Warm, Pat Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 01/18/20 21:31 by Quakerengr. Date: 01/18/20 21:40 Re: Mighty Fine Day on the Mighty Fine Line Author: 3rdswitch Looks like a great day.

If I recall correctly, the NWI Chapter published a booklet on how to take better railroad photographs. Date: 01/19/20 08:39 Re: Mighty Fine Day on the Mighty Fine Line Author: RodneyZona Nice shots!! (old Rock Island Lines Chicago based passenger train and engine crews worked to and from Rock Island, IL on the Quad Rocket and to and from Peoria, IL on the Peoria Rocket.
