Here are some cloudy days on the Rock.  Guessing 1975-1976

Image 1 655   On an ewd Rocket  at Ottawa, IL.

Image 2 4513 also at Ottawa, IL.

Image 3 297   Ottawa, IL.

Image 4 has the 654 on ewd Rocket also Ottawa, IL.

Image 5 with US Hwy 6 alongside  the Rock we able to zoom east to Seneca, IL  for last shot.

Nice shots!! Top and bottom shots. Old Rock Island Lines Chicago based passenger train and engine crews worlked to and from Peoria, IL.

That heavy overcast seems to set a perfect mood for when knowing the bitter end of the Rock was just around the corner. Thanks for posting!

        Yes they did, Doyle. Lots of them. And then some more in a different scheme.

Yes, the body in red and black w/ white trim and silver underbody and trucks...the best for freight.  Maroon on stainless/aluminum paint with Scotchlite & maroon/red trim w/ silver underbody and trucks for passenger.  Nothing more beautiful!!

Passenger train was likely Numoer 12, the Peoria Rocket, although the mainline speeds were deteriorating by this time.
