When did UP's SD60Ms come out?
Author: jgilmore

Here's the first time I lensed UP's brand new SD60Ms as the wide-nose era of dieseldom was just getting started. Perhaps late '88 or early '89? Anyone know when they were first delivered, and if any are still in use? Shot is SB loaded LCRA coal bound for La Grange (heard they gotta a lotta nice girls there), location is near Pottsboro in North Texas. JG

UP 6085 built in January 1989 was the very 1st SD60M built. I havent seen any active in a few years, I think most of them are in storage. UP did rebuild a few of them into what they call SD59MX's. I think those stay out in California.

The late Carl T Rogoza ,retired Southern Pacific Conductor, and horn and whistle lover suffered his fatal heart attack while travling west out of Yuma at Frink in the UP 6101. Thanks to TO member Gyralite he was able to get the UP to change the name of the siding to Rogoza.A fund was started and a Southern Pacific station sign was fabricated and installed at the east end of the siding. A replacement sign was made to replace the weater beaten original and installed last year. On occasions that I would be stopped at the east end I would water the catus plants we planted the day we erected the first sign. It is double track there now.

Looks like you tripped the shutter just as the yellow strobe on 6101's cab roof fired.  That's not an easy thing to do even with a motor drive!
