TO Nostalgia & History getting too big and popular?
Author: RailRat

Does this Nostalgia and History section needs to be divided up into East/West North/South? Is getting very popular!

(8:04am added the word "Does" to my original comment, missed it last night)

What do you think?

I noticed this too. Lots of us longing for the good old days.

I think all of a sudden the vast majority of TO’s contributing members have lots of forced free time on their hands with “stay home” restrictions all over the country. I think their resulting generosity has made the Nostalgia & History forum a very popular place to go. In think it would be absolute lunacy for TO to panic and force division into our sense of history, the very thing that brings us all together as railfans. I think we all should just enjoy this temporary bonanza without pushing a damn panic button...

I agree, leave it as it is and it will eventually scale back as people are less stuck at home (although I'm enjoying it very much as it is now). Were it to be split into two or more regional pages, I'd just look at all of them anyway.

May I happily add, "you are damn right" .  The 'stay at home' scenario is rapidly producing the crazy jitters and goofy ideas.

I agree with Lance ... this is basically a "flash in the pan" situation ... and while it may last six months or so, I think that we will return to a normal (at least for TO) posting situation.

I agree with Lance, the late 50's on up is what I grew up on, any train would do. N&H is what I look at first and read every post, and see what is posted in the other sections, nothing needs to be changed. KCRW287

One of the most common sayings I heard at Bayshore...

“Leave well enough alone”.

Don’t change a thing. It’ll all pass eventually...

Good point Lance, I too enjoy this section daily, but have been pondering this question long before this virus thing hit. Thanks.

Let me expand a bit...

I just ambled upstairs to refill the ol' coffee mug. While up there I looked out the window at the initial burst of green just about to happen everywhere. Tree buds & grass sprouts nearly ready to explode. Like many other railfan photographers, this is my absolute favorite time of the year! I want more than anything to go down to God's country in my beloved Flint Hills and shoot lots of trains. But I'm doing my part to stay home, safe & REMOTE. I've set myself up with enough scanning to keep me happily occupied for a few months. So right now my only real method of contact with so much of my railfan family is through a handful of forums here on TO. Leading the way is Nostalgia & History. If this forum was to be splintered up I would become a very unhappy home-camper...

I'm lucky to still be working, delivering/installing Major Appliances, right now riding shotgun in the truck while texting this, the difference now is, when we get to a home, we have to ask if anyone is or has been sick, if so we can't do it till who knows when?
Many crazy changes going on right now down here, very stressful for everyone.

I agree with Lance and the others.

The Nostalgia & History Board is not getting too big & popular and it does not need to be broken up.

Stay safe & healthy everyone.

My annual dues are money well spent on TO and have been a Godsend while hunkering down at home these days.  Unfortunately, my wife doesn't have any such outlet or hobbies other than the phone and Facebook, and is much more subject to"cabin fever".  Agreed that we don't need to break N&H into section of the country.  Right now, there are contributors who are known to be connected to a particular part of the country or the post label is a dead giveaway, so I don't bother opening their posts.  Leave things the way they are, please!

Another vote to keep as is.  Break up not needed.

I like the wide geographic variety on "Nostalgia & History".
I'm from the west and I kind of need to keep my horizon broad and not just focus on the western RRs.
No change, please.

Agree, no change please. It has always been one of the busier sections of the site, but I am enjoying it even more in its expanded state, with so many additional posts. Lots of interesting and enjoyable images and backstories have been posted. Thanks to everyone for their contributions!

It needs to be divided into pre 1970 and post 1970.  I know that many folks here find Amtrak, Conrail, etc. to be nostalgic, but to many others, we only are interested to see the fallen flag lines.
