Every once in a while three and some times four gators would be M.Ued together and you would be lucky enought to be there when it happened, here 9812 leads a four unit team of renumbered gators into the 9800 group on a WB...And the chase was on only be be blocked by a jack knifed truck wich caught fire and blocked the freeway and the chase was over... On my many trips to the Tehap's, it was possible to see two and three gators mixed with SD24's and later GP30 and 35'.s..As soon as the 
SD40's and SD45's arrived, you saw fewer and fewer Gators in road service.

I think you're right, look at the newish BN boxcars. This makes me reset my internal calendar as I thought the gators were gone by then.

Those are really nice shots of the 'Gators in their iconic habitat, George. 

I recall seeing the 4-unit sets running between Barstow and Bakersfield up through the spring of 1973, but not after that.

They were renumbered from the 800's to the 9800's 1969-1970, so that dates it as well.
