Date: 08/08/20 07:08 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: aehouse Departing LaSalle Street station in morning light. Fresh paint on the units suggests early 1960s.
Art House Date: 08/08/20 10:26 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: BruceStikkers I would agree with early 1960's based on general look of the buildings and old freight house and trailers. I grew up in the Chicago area and was in high school at the time and it just feels like that time period.

Rich Date: 08/08/20 13:40 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: bbaker Probably early 1960's. Penn Central merger was in 1968. If you look in the backgroud you can see a Chicago Great Western letter board on a wareheouse (probably near Grand Central Station). CGW merged with the CNW also in 1968.
Someone with an NYC public timetable or Offical Guide could determine the morning train seen here. BB Date: 08/08/20 14:08 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: SvenMolson It's too smoggy to tell.
Sven Date: 08/08/20 14:10 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: krm152 This is what happens when photographers don't document their photos. It becomes someone else's problem to attempt resolving.
My photos may be mediocre by comparison but at least the photographer, date, location , and other applicable data are recorded. ALLEN Date: 08/08/20 15:00 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: agentatascadero The closest OG in my posession is the Dec, '59 issue. It shows #44, the New York Special, via Detroit, departing Chicago at 0900 hrs. Equipment shows coaches, Pullmans, and a dining car.
#44 is the only morning departure shown. AA Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA Date: 08/08/20 16:08 Re: Encore 24: NYC E7A & B w/train @ Chicago ... Author: Englewood The last time this photo was posted, I suggested it was No. 6
based on what looks like a Santa Fe bag behind the power. No. 6 was the Fifth Ave. - Cleveland Ltd. The 12th St. Mail, Express and Flexi-van schedule for Oct. 30, 1966 shows a mail connection from the ATSF to NYC No. 6 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3769836,3769840#msg-3769840 LInk to Oct. 1965 NYC passenger schedule https://streamlinermemories.info/?p=7533 Edited 1 time(s). One odd thing, to me at least, I'd expect clean power to be a thing of the past by then. AA Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA |
