Interesting to note that back in The Good Old Days™, Santa Fe had a 2-8-0 that carried that road number for the entire first half of the 20th century.

Nine years ago, not knowing one little iota of the back story, I stumbled onto the 599 on a westbound manifest @ Abilene, KS. I gave a short chase, even though I had concrete plans to veture south and chase the 2011 BNSF Employee Special (multiple excursions) out of Newton, KS.
