Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 23: Foaming the D&H
Author: AlcoRSD15

Saturday, November 1, 1986 was the last day of railfanning on the trip (I flew home the next day).  After chasing an invisible RS11 all the way to Lawrence MA the day before, I made my way west to meet Brad in Binghamton, following the D&H.  It turned out to be a very productive day.  At Nineveh, NY, I got my first train, an eastbound led by D&H 7315-D&H 422-B&M 202 (GP38-2/C420/GP38-2). - Eric Blasko

Chasing the 7315 East to Oneonta, I ran into a westbound with 7 units, and the westbound chase was on!  Power was D&H7314-D&H 455-Guilford 326-D&H 7408-B&M 311-B&M 208-MeC229.  A C424 and a U25B in the same consist! I followed him west along I-88 and Hwy 7, getting these photos along the way.

At Bainbridge, NY was a convenient overpass allowing me to get these photos.

I continued on west with the goal of photographing the 7314 West on the Harpursville trestle.  Arriving ahead of him, I waited.  To my surprise, an eastbound showed up, with B&M308-D&H 7418-D&H283-D&H656-Guilford225.  Another excellent locomotive consist! (GP40-2/GP39-2/U23B/U33C/U25B). With 5 units, I couldn’t fit all of the locomotives in one shot.

Then the 7314 West passed. With 7 units, again I had to settle for two photos instead of one.

I followed the 7314 to Binghamton, where was able to get a few more photos of various Guilford locos.
Next: Tunhannock Viaduct and its “little” brother Martins Creek Viaduct.   - Eric B.

You did great for a west coast visitor in territory that's been familiar to me for 50+ years.
