Old Coast 13
Author: BoilingMan

Santa Barbara operated a street car system untill 1929, and the system had a short branch up the old Santa Barbara Mission.
Here, in the late 70's, a street paving project plowed up rail that had been hidden for about 50yrs.

Somewhat Off Topic for this series, but maybe not too far off?

I shall agree to that plus the textures of the rusted rail, grass and retaining wall add to the perfection.  Not to mention the clear shot of the mission, the mountains and the cross intersecting the rusty rail perfectly. Very cinematic.

There were 2.
One was on Quarentina Street, a block or two below Montecito Street.
The other was on Castillo Street near today’s Carriage House Museum. I think the electrical power was generated there too. This 2nd barn existed until fairly recently (sure wish I’d thought to take a photo!) and was used to house floats for the annual SB Fiesta.

Now you're in my former neighborhood!  I lived about a 1/4 mile behind the Mission on Puesta Del Sol for 30 years; moved in 2020.  As happy as I was to get out of SB, I do miss hearing the Mission bells.
