Varied group of railcars in Granite City,Il
Author: gcm

June 90
I'm not sure what yard this was but WR Tower can be seen in the distance on the left (1 and 3).
Granite City is near St.Louis.
Anyone know where these cars and units were headed ?

Along with the two RDC units, a possible ex-GM&O baggage car along with a C&O heavyweight RPO/baggage.
There is another baggage car off to the left.
I was curious about what happened to them.

Gary, that first yellow painted baggage appears to be in the Chessie Steam Special Paint Scheme as I can see both the vermilion and the blue besides the yellow.  My guess is that some private owner purchased these cars but alas, I have no idea where they went.

The yellow car is C&O 914100, former PC100, former C&O 209. It was used in the Chessie Steam Special and the Safety Express.
The car coupled to it is C&O 914101, former PC101, former C&O 34.
Both C&O cars were converted to power cars by the C&O.

The RDC's appear to have NJ Dot (pre-NJT) logos in the window bands.

Very interesting photos.  Thanks for your posting.
Granite City, IL was really a railroad center; the Oct 1969 Official Guide listed 15 railroads serving that location.

Was this yard servicing the rail passenger car rebuilder in Granite City?

Thanks for the old drawings of the area.
You must have a room full of old maps and drawings.
I really enjoy seeing them.
