Nostalgia & History > Timing is everything. shooting at the Conrail corkDate: 09/08/21 06:37 Timing is everything. shooting at the Conrail cork Author: Roadjob Early Conrail produced many interesting photo ops, and one of my favorites was at Banks tower, just west of Marysville, Enola, and Harrisburg. Anyone who ever sat west of the tower can attest to the train backlogs that piled up there waiting to get across the Rockville bridge into Harrisburg, or, track space in Enola. Conrail tried mightily to funnel traffic through the area, but there was just too much at the time, and the expected operational headaches of new routings for that traffic. The plan also at that time was to downgrade the old Reading hump yard at Rutherford, east of the city. That plan was not to be implemented until years later when the hump finally closed, and is now a major intermodal terminal. If you liked trains by the dozen, Banks was the spot to watch them sit for sure. An added bonus back then were friendly operators, and stopped crews waiting to get in, who were happy to have conversation with an interested fan.The shot today captures the area in all its glory. This is 1976 and Conrail is in its first Summer. The eastbound on the left, had been sitting for over an hour and is just pulling to go into Enola. The two trains to the right are inbound and outbound out of Harrisburg. This is the only three train moving meet I ever captured on film.

Always bothered me how quick CR would paint out PC logo's, those GP38-2 were very new and always had full PC logo, they must have painted out all remnants of PC quicker then they fixed anything that was broken.
