WAG Steam Friday Santa Fe 1073 at Pauline Kansas
Author: jtwlunch

The steam print of the day is Santa Fe 1073 (2-6-2) at work going by the Pauline, KS depot with a string of stock cars.  No date or photographer listed.

Most likely a WAG Sr shot. Circa 1952 would be a very reasonable starting guess…

Great photo, thanks for all the WAG Sr and the other "Kansas Gang" photos you continue to post.. Those engines look like they were pretty good lugers. The train seems to be moving at a respectable speed.

Do you have any photos of Colby, Ks?  On a family vacation to Colorado in 1952 I remember passing the UP engine house with a bunch of parked steame engines there.

Thanks

The two visible autos appear to be either early or late '40s.

This photo appears on page 163 of Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail.  No date listed in the caption, but it is identified as a WAG Sr. photo of train No. 152.  The 1073 was taken out of service for the last time at Argentine (Kansas City, KS) on September 6, 1952, formally retired in December 1953, and donated to Lawrence, KS for display in June 1955:
