Amtrak SDP40F 635 (Photo 1) was built in July 1974. She was rebuilt as AT&SF SDF40-2 5254 (Photo 2) in September 1984, became BNSF 6964 in February 1998, and was retired in May 2002.

The major visual difference after the rebuild is the addition of a front porch for the freight version. This required some metal bending and short ladders.

2. AT&SF 5254 is shown above Mojave, CA on September 4, 1990.
