Nostalgia & History > EL E8 units on the move in MarionDate: 06/22/22 11:44 EL E8 units on the move in Marion Author: gcm March 76
A little over six years from their last passenger assignment, these four E8 units were moving from the service area to the far west end of the Erie Lackawanna yards in Marion,Oh where they would take a train west. 831 was the only unit of the four that was built for the Erie - in 1951. The last three engines (810,814,809) all ran on the Lackawanna - built in 1951. 810 was one of the two E8 demonstrator engines used on the Lackawanna ( it also smoked like an Alco). Thanks for sharing! Date: 06/22/22 16:49 Re: EL E8 units on the move in Marion Author: santafe199 Good stuff, Gary! I think EL's E-units had a very graceful look...

Just goes to show what a class act the EL was right up to the last days of their existence. 20+ year old E units looking pretty decent even during hard, sad times. More importantly, I'd bet the head end crew won't be hearing any alarm bells ringing on their trip!

Great shots Posted from iPhone Date: 06/23/22 08:31 Re: EL E8 units on the move in Marion Author: aehouse EL 809 was the former DL&W 820.
Pre-merger, the Lackawanna's E units were numbered 810-820, and the Erie's were numbered 820-833. With two 820s, one had to be renumbered, and the Lackawanna unit got the nod, becoming EL 809. Art House |
