Very cool! My paternal Grandmother was a regular KCS passenger between Kansas City & Texarkana. Just knowing she rode over these very rails is special. Thanks for the look!

The 21 looks good with the E8 style flush number boards.  Looks highly visible and true to the nature of the original streamlining.  Thanks for posting.

It's definitely some kind of antenna.  Here's a link to another photo of KCS 21 which shows it pretty clearly:

I think the KCS used inductive radio antennas on early engine installations, as did PRR.

OK, I stand corrected. When I was on the KCS, delivering now GP30 units in 1963, those E units did not have such antennas.
