1) Newport News, VA dated 1906. 2) Philadelphia, PA 1900-1910. 3) A John Vachon image from Pittsburgh, January 1941. Bob Date: 03/18/23 13:33 Re: Streetcar Saturday Author: ClubCar Hey, I like all three of these photos. Streetcars were a great way to get around, especially when many had their own private right-of-ways which we did have in the Baltimore area.
John in White Marsh, Maryland Date: 03/18/23 14:28 Re: Streetcar Saturday Author: Gonut1 The Philadelphia photo was at the PRR Ferries Terminal on Delaware Ave. Once across the Delaware River on the appropriate road's ferry you could ride the wooden bodied 3rd rail electric cars of the PRR's West Jersey & Seashore RR, long way around via May's Landing to Atlantic City competition to the steam roads, Philadelphia & Atlantic City RR (Reading Company) or Camden & Atlantic (PRR). Many of the lines were eventually consolidated into the Pennsylvania - Reading Seashore Lines. What a hoot it would be to time travel back and ride the various routes. Essentially the Camden and Atlantic City line was what Amtrak rebuilt and marketed as the Gamblers Express. Unfortunately the party didn't last long when Pennsylvania and other nearby states legalized gambling. New Jersey Transit was apartner in that venture and continue to operate the line today, predominately patronized by the Atlantic City Casino emplyees comutting!
Great post. Gonut Date: 03/18/23 16:59 Re: Streetcar Saturday Author: DynamicBrake Some classic shots here. I like that last shot of the skyline and the '29 A Tudor Sedan. Thanks for sharing.
