A Railroad Locomotive Ride
Author: flynn

Sometime between 1953 and 1961 my cousin, Mary and her husband, Jack Hughes from Los Angles visited us in Glenwood Springs.  Mary wanted to see her Uncle Dan who at that time was a railroad engineer who was living in Grand Junction but would make twice weekly trips to Glenwood and Aspen.  We went down to the passenger station in the evening to wait for Dan’s train to come in.  After a time went across the street, 7th Street, to Bunney’s Bar to continue waiting.  We could see from the bar when Dan came in.  When Dan did eventually come in he asked if we wanted to ride across the bridge to Funston to put the engine for the night.  We walked back across the bridge.  I don’t remember if we went back to Bunney’s

Picture 1 and 2 is Dan’s work transcript.

Picture 3 is Glenwood Springs 7th in about 1900.  Th picture shows Katie Bender’s Diner.  The workers who worked on the steel railroad bridge and the building of the passenger railroad station might have dined in this diner.  In 1953-1961 Bunney’s bar was located where Katie Bender’s diner was or nearby.
