Nostalgia & History > Warbonnet Wednesday: Hauling freight in '66Date: 03/27/24 05:47 Warbonnet Wednesday: Hauling freight in '66 Author: santafe199 It’s an A-B-B-B-A lash-up, and it’s Red & Silver. Normally this consist would be considered classic, or even elegant... when in command of one of Uncle John’s passenger trains! But those are revenue boxcars & such back there! Sorry ‘bout that... :^/
1. AT&SF 338 L leading a freight train at Ft Worth, TX on October 24, 1966. Original Kodachrome slide by William A. Gibson (WAG) Sr. Now in the James T. Wilson collection. Thanks for looking back! Such a consist was unimaginable out here in California. Date: 03/27/24 07:28 Re: Warbonnet Wednesday: Hauling freight in '66 Author: texchief1 Excellent post, Lance! I was only 10 at this time but I knew what Santa Fe F units looked like and I was hooked.

I heartily concur! I kinda-sorta knew about the dual purpose aspect of that engine class, just not the particulars... :^) Lance Date: 03/27/24 09:21 Re: Warbonnet Wednesday: Hauling freight in '66 Author: PHall In 1966 this locomotive would have been part of the 325 class which were "Dual Service" locomotives. So seeing them hauling freight was not that unusual.

JG Date: 03/27/24 22:44 Re: Warbonnet Wednesday: Hauling freight in '66 Author: ATSFSuperChief Warbonnets always go to see pulling passenger and/or freight to make money. Come on BNSF Katie, please paint at least one to truly honor the Santa Fe.

Oh my... if that was only possible! But I suppose that painting up 1 true heritage R/S Warbonnet (and KEEPING it that way) would take way too many precious pennies from the bottom line! :^( |
