Hoboken in 1956: timetable questions

In October 1956 most Erie trains moved
from Jersey City to Hoboken. (All except
the Northern Branch and NJ&NY?) The
timetable shows 194 weekday departures
from Hoboken after that, but some of those
are X trains -- does that mean equipment trains
with no passengers? What are E trains?
Trains to Chicago have an E but I see a
train to Buffalo doesn't.

Never seen a timetable with five schedules --
weekdays, Saturday, then another schedule
for Sunday, then another schedule for major
holidays and another for minor holidays.

X-trains were (are) deadhead equipment.

The E prefix most likely means it's an Erie train.

The northern and NYSW trains continued to use Pavonia after 1956.  There was no way tot directly get them from West end on the DLW to KW where the northern started at the south (east) end of croxton yard.

All the other trains used the "new connector" that went from Bergen Jct (just west of west end tower) to HX on the Erie main.
Eventually, the northern trains made a backup move from Bergen Jct between KW, so they could get intio Hoboken, and the NYSW trains were shortened to only serve as far east as "Susquehanna Transfer", which was underneath the appeoach to the Lincoln tunnel. Passengers transferred there to a bus to the Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan.

As far as the separate pages for weekdays, sat, sun, major and minor holidays.   I liked that setup. SO much better than having to try to figure out what days each train operates, one at a time.   Back then there were a lot of sat and minor holiday afternoon rush trains, as it was not unusual for ppl to work a half day on saturdays and minor holidays,
