Back in Chicagoland
Author: GPutz

I missed Denver; but, you know, Chicagoland isn't a bad place for a railfan to live.

Here's a C&NW e/b on the line between the Lake Bluff station and KO Tower in Lake Forest about to pass under Green Bay Road in September '74. Note the ex-N&W C628s leading TOFC, not ore jennies. On April 29, '00 (a unique date), I participated in a conference at the Harrison Center, about 100 yards south of this spot. The line was single track then.

New CMSP&P U30Cs #5658 & #5657 being set up @ Milwaukee, WI, on 10/5/74 from the 35th St. viaduct. No, CMSP&P didn't have many of these. They were numbered into the BN series and were intended for run-through coal trains.

AMTK E9A #434 on the CMSP&P turntable @ Milwaukee, WI, on 10/5/74. I think it was an ex-CMSP&P unit.

CMSP&P RSD-5 #570 @ Milwaukee, WI, on 10/5/74, among other venerable units.

C&NW calf #1106 @ Butler, WI, on 10/5/74. This is probably a recently (at that time) repainted CGW unit.

Great photos. Thank you for sharing them. Pretty rare roof shots of those Milwaukee Road U30Cs.

Glad you left Denver to nail these beauties. You can always come back to your first love, the Mile High City. Beware; housing costs are out of this world in the Denver Metro area. Bring plenty of $$$ and expect more fencing from Denver's RTD project along the Joint Line.

Thank you for sharing your photo safari adventures.

I think you're right.

Coachyard, Thanks a ton. I think you've moved to the Engine Terminal or Power Desk. I have two slides of WSOR #10C at CSRM in Sacramento, CA, on 5/8/91, and I didn't realize it was AMTK #434. But, I think it may have been built as #202A, then renumbered #32A, possibly when the UP trains went to C&NW in '54. Gerry

Cozephyr, Thanks for the compliment. I know about high housing costs. I lived in CA for 10.5 years, losing my shirt three times until I left on a high note in '00 before the "high tech" bubble burst. Gerry

If it's your power desk, I've seen enough of your shots that I'll work for free.
