Sierra Railroad 2-8-0 #28 made-up for the movies. Coming down-grade into Sonora, Calif., alongside Hospital Road, #28 has been fitted with baloon stack, oil headlight, and wood stacked on the tender for fuel, June 21, 1977.

That would be Natalie Wood, not Kim Novak.

I had just visited with Gary Allen on the first of the month. He & I talked steam for awhile...believe he was an extra brakeman on at least one of these trips behind the 3 spot. Said they'd leave Jimtown before the sun was up to get to the shooting location when the director wanted. Gary said it was one of his greatest times railroading.
