Every Summer from 1983 to 1991 I spent a week on the British Columbia Railway, later BC Rail.

Here are a couple of shots of typical Alco power leading the southbound way freight just south of
Lillooet, BC heading for Squamish.

Nice shots. Looks like around the mile 134-135.

The first car on the train appears to be a refridgerator. BCR (or PGE) took a bunch of ice reefers and added a motor and compressor to a cut away ice hatch at the end of the car.

My guess is that the car contained groceries for the community of Seton Portage between Seton and Anderson Lakes. By truck, a long and dangerous drive, by train , a run along the lake. Next trip, the empty would be picked up by the wayfreight.

Phil:

That is correct. This car was sent down from Pavilion where it had been set out to provide frozen food for a large track crew and their kitchen cars.

From your various posted photos, I gather you have spent some time on this railroad also.
