FPA-4 6784 leads a passenger train at Dorval QC. A little reminder of the weather to come!

Remember when the Toronto -Montreal trains were so long that when stopped at Dorval station the power was beyond the end of the platform? Now the locomotive is barely beyond the station building and much of the platform has been abandoned. How much platform does VIA need when trains are rarely more than six cars?

I remember the Rapido being a good length train most evenings. We used to talk to the veteran engineer who would throw us his old orders. Pleasant memories of youth!

Thanks for the Great information and photos re Montreal area railroading.

While working with CN in Montreal on the mechanical side, I remember working on the units pictured, and seeing passenger trains of 12 - 20 cars on a regular basis.

The afternoon pool train: Montreal Windsor station - Toronto Union Station (CN Power and crews) usually had 12 plus cars.

Mind you this was in the mid 60's.

Good memories...but no camera then! (Dumb move on my part).
