2241 West - CP Track Inspection Train
Author: Train611

Hello TO folks...

I hope the winter weather is not too harsh, wherever you are today.

This weekend saw CP2241 head up the track inspection train, and overnight in Kamloops (maybe 2 nights)

1. A clean 2241 hits the crossing at MP124.2 Shuswap Sub with the tech cars, going at track speed. (note the camera on the nose of the unit)
2. Heading for Kamloops the tech guys have a great view of where they have been!
3. A late Saturday afternoon layover in the Kamloops Yard. The fuel guy is making a delivery.

Thanks for looking.

Interesting consist. I've seen the CN inspection train a few times, but never this one.

What is the history of this locomotive? It reminds me of a GP60 with that DB housing.

It's a GP-20 ECO, the trucks might have belonged to an old geep, but pretty much everything above them is new build. They are not tier4 compliant, but because they contain some older content can be considered "remanufactured".

Looks to be one of the new ECO locomotives built
EMD, usually based on the frame of an older GP!

Can come equipped with 8 and 12 cylinder 710 engines.
2150 and 3150 hp respectively.

the GP20C-ECO will use just enough rebuilt components to designate them a rebuild. The GP20C-ECO will feature a new frame, fuel tank, long hood, and cab with CP providing trucks, prime mover, and alternator (along with many other smaller components) to be rebuilt and reused in the locomotives. The units will resemble a GP60's long hood and feature a snoot nose, which will set the cab back slightly on the frame to make room for the additional length.

I'm not sure about any of the other parts mentioned like the alternator, but the prime mover was not rebuilt and reused. These feature a new 8 cylinder 710 engine.

I was curious about that too, as any GP-9 would have a 567 engine, not a 710. That information came directly from progress rail, right off their web page.

GP9 would also have a DC Generator, rather than an Alternator. The only parts reused on CP's ECO rebuilds are the trucks, and the traction motor cores(though these are rewound to D78 standards).
