Cartier 87-42 and 82 roll their northbound empties through the area known as Fire Lake, site of a smaller open pit mine now long closed. Love all your Cartier stuff !  Would have been nice to be up at Fire Lake when it was in production. About those Black Flies. We made our first trip up there in July of 1991. Couldn't figure out why all the provincial campgrounds were so empty until we got out of the car for the first time. Some lady was dressed in what looked like a bee keepers suit with gloves and a pith helmet wrapped with screening. After that we planned our trips up there in the Fall.

They're actually mining at Fire Lake again, on a smaller scale, but the mine has been active again since 2006.

Yes, always after the first frost, or in early June when you could still get snow and there could be ice on those ponds. I always wanted to check out the old town site, with road access from there into Queen where Cartier's division point was. We saw some phenomenal pictures taken by Cartier's in-house photographer in that area as well as where there was no road access. Both times we visited he was on vacation so never did get to swap stories with him. RY
